The First Big Day
What are you most excited about your internship and why? And at the same time, what are you most nervous about and why?
I'm most excited about gaining work experience because, after high school I'm going to need a job and this opportunity will allow me to be better prepared for the next job I work at. However, I am nervous about taking public transportation because I never really have to, and I'm not sure how get around on the bus and trolley just yet.

Who I've Met
Who have you interacted with besides your mentor that you think you can learn from? Describe who, what they do, and why/what do you think you will learn from him/her.
I've interacted with someone who works for my mentor (Jean) named Blythe. She dances and teaches dance classes. I think I can learn a lot from her about how to keep things organized and get things done because shes very fast paced with the things she does.

My Work Day and Environment
Describe the physical space you work in. Try to paint a picture so that we all can visualize what your surroundings and your day are like. Please also clearly indicate the days and hours you will be working at your site.
I work in an office from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday - Friday with 3 computers, lots of pictures hanging up on the walls, and many people coming in and out. The office is small and has 4 desks in it, but it's still roomy. Each day I come in and either Jean (my mentor) or Blythe (my kind of other mentor) have something for me to do for them or work on. At 11:00 everyday I dance for an hour and a half in the White Box, which is in the building next to the one I work at.

My Project
Describe in detail the project you will be working on for your internship. In regards to the project, what are you excited and nervous about? How will it benefit you and the company?
For my project I will be dancing with the High Tech High Intersession kids and preforming in the show that will be Jan. 17. I get a lot of practice on my dancing so that I can improve. The company benefits because I help with getting the show up and running, also I help make the flyers and programs.

So Far...
Reflect about your internship thus far. What has surprised you? What have you accomplished? Were there any funny moments? Awkward moments? If so, how did you handle those situations. Be as descriptive as possible.
What has surprised me is how difficult it is to put on a show and what goes on behind the scene. However thus far I have been in a show and, helped behind the scenes for 3 other shows. I was in charge of was changing the lighting during the shows, which seems like a simple task (so I thought). Unfortunately, it's quite difficult, because you have to be very fast and you can't make any mistakes, also it all happens in the dark! So after the dancers perform, I have to quickly run onto the stage and change what they call "gels", and the gels are basically a thin piece of colored see-through paper with a thin metal case like thing. I have to grab the gel that's already in the little area where they go and switch it out with a different one unless there wasn't one in there already then I just put in the new one. Also, I don't do it once... I have to do it three times because there are 3 different light posts on each side of the stage so all together there are six light posts. Thankfully I was only changing three out of the six when I had to change the gels.
Funny Moment: Well... the first show that I was helping with was also my first time ever doing gel changes. But we had rehearsed the show two times before the actual real show (but not with the musicians, which I didn't think mattered), so I felt ready and knew all my changes and whatnot. So the dancers finish the first dance and I run on the stage and start to change the gels and one gets stuck and the woman (Pam) who was actually controlling the lights saw and turned the lights on a bit to give me a little bit more light so that I could see what I was doing.... and the dancers were all waiting for me to finish and I was going as quick as I could, then the music started (-.-) and I was still standing there and the dancers (also surprised) quickly started dancing, and I had only finished changing one out of the three gels I was suppose to change.! So, I just put the gel down and awkwardly walked off the stage and sat back down... depressed and defeated. *sadface*
Then the next day came and it went way better and there were no mistakes! YAY! :)

My Fellow Juniors :)
I looked at Ava, Teris, and Mariytzah's internship blogs! I enjoyed reading about what they were doing and their experiences because it's cool to see them working and being professional employees. It's a little bit sad because after we graduate this is kind of how it will be just with out the blogs :p. But everyone is going to go off and start their life in some way or another.
School VS. Work
Compare and contrast the work week with the school week. How are your responsibilities, work, interactions, and time different? How might internship influence the direction of your life?
At school there are much more people, and at work its only a few people who I work with. But I really like the working over school because its not as stressful, because i don't have to bring more work home on top of the work I did at my job. Another difference is that in school each day we are trying to progress and learn new things, but at work I keep on doing things that I already know how to do, and my goals are to learn more things, its to get better at what I already know how to do. Also the time I go to school is less then the time that I stay at work, but I don't mind because when I get home I don't have to worry about doing anymore work! My internship has influenced me to keep on trying to do what I want to do in life and to work hard at whatever I am doing.

Reflection On My Internship
1. How was your work
significant or meaningful to your workplace?
2. How did your project(s) go from an idea or inspiration to a final product? Explain the processes from the initial idea to the final product and the skills that you used and developed.
1. I helped mostly with the behind the scenes of the shows that were happening at the time and even during the shows. Some of the small things I did had a big impact like putting together big signs so that people could easily find the location. Also I helped set up before, and clean up after the Water Lilies show. Surprisingly the small things are a big deal because each little thing can make or break an event, so I'm glad it went well.
2. The projects like making little flyers, then stuffing the programs, setting up seats and making everything look nice and organized, and collecting tickets as people walked into the theater were all preparing me for the final big task I was assigned to do which was the lighting. All the small things had to be done pretty quickly because they needed to be done before the show so that everything would be prepared and not so hectic. So when it came time for me to help with the lighting I was somewhat ready because I'd been working very fast and efficiently on all the other tasks I was told to do.

IPOL Preparation
1. How was your work as an intern meaningful
to your education and personal growth?
2. How did your view
of life beyond high school change or develop during your time as an
intern?
3. How did communication and/or collaboration at work influence your understanding
of professional working environments?
1. I dance with Dance Fierce and I never really knew about all the work that goes into putting on a show other than just dancing or whatever else. So I really appreciate getting to experience that for myself. Also I just really enjoyed working and feeling like a responsible young adult. :)
2. My view of high school didn’t really change at all I've been looking forward and still am looking forward to moving on from high school and starting to do the things that I love, like ASL (American Sign Language) Interpreting!
3. It helped me become more comfortable with asking questions and really following directions closely and carefully. I found that I personally want to work on listening and not spacing out so much because then I have to keep asking questions that I should have got the first time.

The Evidence
Describe the actual pieces of
evidence you will be including in your POL
and in what format ( powerpoint, display, a portfolio,etc...) you are
thinking of using to present your POL.
I'm going to be showing a flyers that I made or edited. I will also show the program of the show that I helped out with. I don’t think I want my presentation to be on a powerpoint or anything like that I would like to just speak to my guests and mentor sort of like a conversational type of way except I would be doing most of the talking.
